    EM-related fellowships

    • Critical care

      Our department is actively pursuing accreditation for a Critical Care fellowship inclusive of Emergency Medicine physicians. We just welcomed a new attending, Dr. Amit Pandit, who is boarded in both Emergency Medicine and Critical Care. During residency, you will rotate through NSICU, MICU, SICU, and PICU. All of these programs have an ACGME-accredited fellow in training. Our critical care experience is second to none. The unique position we hold as the state's only academic medical center ensures we have a diverse pathology.

    • EMS

      We now proudly offer an ACGME-accredited one-year EMS fellowship.This fellowship is able to be tailored to your particular interests in the field. The current fellow's focus is disaster medicine. During residency, there are ample opportunities to work in the field with paramedics, or to staff large events in the local area.

    • Ultrasound

      Dr. Brian Tollefson leads our Ultrasound efforts. Residents receive unbeatable training in our program. A full month of residency is dedicated to Ultrasound during each year of training. This includes weekly journal club, didactics, and 20 hours of hands-on Ultrasound experience per week in the Emergency Department. This in-depth experience will give you the confidence to integrate Ultrasound into your everyday practice and decision-making. A one-year fellowship is offered in Ultrasound, for those interested.

    • Sports medicine

      Dr. Brian Tollefson also leads our Sports Medicine department. He is an expert in MSK ultrasound. MSK ultrasound training is integrated into our Ultrasound months. This is valuable exposure to a quickly-developing field. Opportunities for sideline coverage and Sports Medicine clinic are available. Dr. Tollefson also operates a Friday Night Football clinic for athletes seeking care after their games.  A Sports Medicine fellowship is available in conjunction with the University's Orthopedics Department.

    • Research

      We offer research opportunities in any field that may interest you. Our faculty are currently pursuing a broad range of topics from resident wellness to sepsis management. Our research department is led by Dr. Mike Puskarich and Dr. Sarah Sterling. We welcome our first fellow, Dr. Utsav Nandi.  Dr. Nandi also directs our national conference activities.

    • Wilderness medicine

      Dr. John McCarter leads our Wilderness Medicine efforts. We offer bi-annual Wilderness Medicine education to our medical students. As a resident, you can craft your own month-long Wilderness Medicine elective in conjunction with Dr. McCarter. Residents have done everything ranging from ski medicine in Montana to Mt. Everest base-camp health care.
