    Clinical Services

    The Adult Emergency Department at the University of Mississippi Medical Center is the only Level 1 Trauma Center in the state. The department treats approximately 78,000 adult patients annually, the highest patient volume of any ED in the state with a 22% admission rate and with a fourth of those being ICU admissions (high acuity).

    Faculty members serve as state and metro area EMS medical directors. Emergency Medicine faculty and residents also serve as medical control for all Central District EMS services.

    A RapidTrack treatment area utilizing nurse practitioners helps to facilitate the treatment of patients with minor illnesses or injuries. Primarily ESI Level 4, 5 patients

    Chest pain unit

    Our chest pain unit is located adjacent to the Emergency Department. The observational unit offers rapid evaluation and management of chest pain patients. It is the central component of the first Cycle III Accredited Chest Pain Center in Mississippi.
