    Clinical Services

    The Emergency Department at the University of Mississippi Medical Center is the only Level 1 Trauma Center in the state. UMMC houses the states only pediatric hospital and pediatric emergency department in the state. UMMC is one of two comprehensive stroke centers in the state as well as one of Mississippi's few STEMI centers. Faculty members come from a variety of backgrounds, and each has unique skill sets to offer.

    Faculty members serve as state and metro-area EMS medical directors. Emergency Medicine faculty and residents also serve as medical control for all Central District EMS services. The adult and pediatric emergency departments have both recently been completely renovated.

    • 13% admission rate (2% to the ICU)

    RapidTrack

    A RapidTrack treatment area utilizing nurse practitioners helps to facilitate the treatment of patients with minor illnesses or injuries. Primarily ESI Level 4, 5 patients.

    Chest pain unit

    Our chest pain unit is located adjacent to the Emergency Department. The observational unit offers rapid evaluation and management of chest pain patients. It is the central component of the first Cycle III Accredited Chest Pain Center in Mississippi.

    Observation unit

    Our observational unit is located adjacent to the Emergency Department. The observational unit offers rapid evaluation and management of common emergency department patients that may require a more prolonged stay. This unit includes five beds that will be managed by the Adult ED staff.
