  • Residency Application Process

The Department of Anesthesiology Residency Training Program only accepts applications through the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS). The deadline to submit an application for the upcoming academic year is Oct. 15.

The residency program has PGY-1 positions that are approved annually by the Graduate Medical Education Office. The program is categorical, which includes one internship year and three years of clinical anesthesia training.

PGY-2/CA-1 applicants are welcome to apply through ERAS. We have applied for additional PGY-2 positions through ACGME.

The Department of Anesthesiology currently uses Thalamus to schedule interviews.

    Interview process

Interviews generally occur from October through January. If invited for an interview, applicants will attend dinner with a group of current residents the evening before the interview. The half-day interview includes meetings with faculty members (including the department chair and program director), a luncheon with current residents and faculty, and a tour of the institution.

    Application requirements

    • ERAS common application form
    • Curriculum vitae
    • Personal statement
    • Three letters of recommendation (must be current)
    • Medical school transcript
    • USMLE and/or COMLEX transcript(s)
    • ECFMG certificate (if applicable)
    • All applicants must have passed USMLE Step 1 prior to submitting an application.
    • If the applicant has completed one or more years of previous residency training, he or she must provide a passing Step 3 score prior to final ranking.
