    Rules

    Rules:
Description of competition:  As part of UMMC's student wellness initiative, the ASB Fitness Challenge will be a competition between the medical center's 6 major schools, in which students will log their miles (or time) in a number of different workout categories.

    Duration of competition:  September 1, 2016 - April 30, 2017

Workout categories:  1) Running/walking; 2) Swimming; 3) Biking; 4) Other [sports, yoga, weightlifting, etc.] 5) Group exercises and competitions

What will students record in the log? For the first three categories above, students will log miles covered (round to nearest half mile). For the fourth category, students will log time spent on the activity (round to nearest half hour). For the fifth category, students will log their competitions/group exercises they participated in.

How will miles and time be logged? All individuals will log their workouts in a Google Drive document that will be sent to all students. As an example of how to log your miles, if you were to run 4 miles one day and 4 miles the next day, you would simply replace the "4" from the first day with an "8" the next day, and so on.

In the Google Drive document, what colors go with what schools? There are multiple tabs at the bottom of the excel sheet
We have attempted to match the schools with their regalia colors at graduation.
    School of Dentistry = purple
School of Graduate Studies = blue
School of Health Related Professions = red
School of Medicine = dark green
    School of Nursing = grey
School of Pharmacy = light green

What CANNOT be logged as exercise?  Normal daily activities (walking to the car or around the grocery store) will not count towards miles or time spent working out. Only activities that are dedicated solely to exercise can be logged.

How long after the workout can miles be logged?  Students will have until the end of a given month to log their miles and time spent working out. On the final day of each month, the Google Drive will be zeroed and the running totals will be updated on the ASB website. As an example, a student may keep track of his/her miles on a sheet of paper until the 30th of the month, and then insert all miles/time into the Google Drive document at this time. However, should the student forget to log their miles from the previous month until the 1st or the 2nd of the next month, he/she will not be allowed to log these miles.

How can we tell how our school is doing in the competition? At the bottom of the student name list for your school, there is a line for "Totals for [your school]". You can track this there.

How will points be determined? Points will be calculated by taking the miles/minutes of exercise and dividing the total number by the population within each individual school.

How will the winners be determined?  The top three schools in each category (miles or time per student - i.e. total miles and time will be divided by total number of students in the school) will win School Cup points, and the school that has the highest ranking in all categories combined will win the “Fittest UMMC School Award”, which will include additional School Cup points and a plaque.

Honor policy:  It will be expected that students will only log miles and workout times when they actually complete the activities. Only registered UMMC students are allowed to take part in this competition.  *Please do not edit any part of the Google Drive document aside from your personal workout updates.
