Giving Back

As an alumnus, you can make a significant difference to your alma mater and medical students. Here are three opportunities to give:

  1. Medical Alumni Scholarship Fund

Since 1994, reunion classes have contributed to a medical scholarship fund awarded to students based on financial need and academics. We hope you will make a contribution to this fund. The financial burden medical students bear today is considerably more than what you experienced as a student. These scholarships reward academic excellence and hard work, helping some of our best and brightest students make it through medical school. We need more of these bright young students to be successful, because our state, nation, and world will need their healing and their problem-solving minds.

We will announce the total amount raised for the fund during reunion weekend, and give recognition for each class gift. We challenge you to join your classmates from your graduating year to support your School of Medicine and the future of medical education in Mississippi. To give to this fund online, go to, then select School of Medicine, then Medical Alumni Scholarship Fund.

  2. Legacy Society

The 1955 Legacy Society was established in 2015, the medical center's 60th year. The society recognizes alumni and friends of the university who have either funded or planned a deferred gift, such as a bequest or a life income plan. Anyone who has an estate gift planned for UMMC or who has completed a life income trust, retained life estate gift or other charitable trust plan for the university is eligible for membership in the 1955 Legacy Society. For example, The University of Mississippi Foundation can be made the beneficiary of donors' estates through specific bequests written in a donor's will or by being named the beneficiary of a life insurance policy or retirement plan.

If you are interesting in making a planned gift to the University of Mississippi Medical Center, please contact the Office of Development at 601.984.2300 or

  3. Guardian Society

In 1975, the Guardian Society was created to honor the University of Mississippi Medical Center’s most generous individual donors. During the last four decades, UMMC alumni and other gracious benefactors have helped the School of Medicine maintain its standard of excellence by giving to the Guardian Society. These “founding members” have helped UMMC achieve unparalleled success in its threefold mission of providing exceptional patient care, training the next generation of health care providers and engaging in innovative research. In reigniting this revered society, all School of Medicine alumni and friends are invited to join the Guardian Society by giving annually to the school. All alumni and friends giving to the school’s area(s) of greatest need will receive recognition and benefits annually at the appropriate membership level. These annual gifts will ensure the future of education, research, and health care at UMMC.

To give to the Guardian Society online, go to, then select School of Medicine, then Guardian Society – Medicine.
