    Isolation requirements

    • Disease: Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS)
    • Category: Airborne Infection Isolation; Contact Precautions
    • Infective material: Sputum, upper respiratory secretions; possibly stool
    • Duration of isolation: Duration of illness plus 10 days after resolution of fever if respiratory symptoms improving.
    • Comments: Suspected or confirmed case is a public health emergency. Immediately notify Mississippi Department of Health at (601) 576-7725 and Infection Control Department at (601) 984-4188. Use N95 or higher respiratory protection plus eye protection (goggles or face shield). Aerosol-producing procedures and "supershedders" highest risk for transmission. Click here for more information.
