  • Securing an Order to Begin Isolation

It is the responsibility of the physician caring for the patient to order the appropriate isolation precautions. Nurses, however, may begin a patient on isolation at any time. They must obtain a physician's order within 24 hours to continue isolation precautions. If concerns or disputes arise concering need for isolation, contact the Infection Prevention Department at (601) 984-2188.

The Hospital Infection Prevention officer or his/her designee is the final arbiters of need for isolation. All personnel (physicians, nurses, technicians, students and others) are responsible for complying with isolation precautions and for tactfully calling observed infractions to the attention of offenders.
