    Isolation requirements

    • Disease: Pertussis (whooping cough)
    • Category: Droplet Precautions
    • Duration of isolation: Until the patient has received 5 days of effective antibiotic therapy
    • Comments: Post-exposure chemoprophylaxis may be indicated for exposed household contacts and health care providers. Contact Infection Control at 4-2188 and Mississipi Department of Health at (601) 576-7725 for assistance.

    Class 1

    This is a Class 1 reportable disease.

    • Class 1: Diseases of major or public health importance which shall be reported directly to the Department of Health by telephone within 24 hours of first knowledge or suspicion.
