The Molecular and Genomics Core supports genetic based research initiatives across all university departments and Centers through providing technical expertise in molecular biology, cell biology and molecular genetics. This Core component of the Center for Psychiatric neuroscience (CPN) will leverage the considerable infrastructure of the Institutional Core, which serves as a nucleus for cutting-edge genetic and genomic technology at the University and across the region, including investigators at other COBRE and INBRE funding sites within the state of Mississippi, many of which lack sufficient resources and/or skills for molecular and genomic analyses.
The Molecular and Genomics Core provides expertise in molecular, cell biology and genetic technologies to researchers at UMMC and across the region.  The core facility is equipped to perform genetic and genomic analysis on human and several model organisms, including rat and mouse. The Core provides a variety of genomics services, including sample processing, genotyping, sequencing, gene expression and early stage bioinformatics analysis. The Molecular and Genomics Core will also provide training and mentoring in genomic technologies to CPN investigators and Institutional users access to state-of-the art molecular and genomics technologies, training, and mentoring to enhance basic and clinical research related to psychiatric diseases.

The Molecular and Genomics Core provides shared-access to the following amplification, visualization, detection and analysis systems:

    ·         NanoDrop 1000
    ·         Agilent Bioanalyzer2100
    ·         Affymetrix GeneChip
    ·         Beckman CEQ 8000XL GeXP Genetic Analysis System
    ·         Strategene  Real-Time PCR
    ·         Experion Bioanalyzer ·         Gradient Thermocyclers
    ·         Agilent High-Resolution Scanner
    ·         Bio-Rad MyiQ and iQ5
    ·         Table-top Microfuge (Eppendorf 1524)
    ·         Bench-top Centrifuge (Eppendorf 5810R)
    ·         Sonicator
    ·         Homogenizer

The Molecular and Genomics Core serves as a central resource that enables, stimulates and facilitates the use of molecular biological approaches and further enhances the methodological diversity of CPN investigators as well as other departmental faculty.
