    Research interests

    • Economic burden of cancer
    • Quality of life among caregivers of individuals with cancer

    Research synopsis

My research focus is towards the use of claims data for pharmacoepidemiological research across a range of chronic conditions including breast and cervical cancer. I am particularly interested in assessing the healthcare utilization and economic burden of these two types of cancer using both limited and public use datasets such as Medicaid and Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System. In a more recent study, I determined the prevalence and healthcare use and cost burden of breast cancer among women recipients in a state Medicaid program. In another project, I studied the role of socio-demographic and healthcare access factors in predicting mammography screening. Going forward, I am interested in two broad areas of cancer-related research. First, I want to identify the factors that predict quality of life among caregivers of women with breast or cervical cancer. Second, I want to determine the true burden of breast and cervical cancer among underprivileged women enrolled in the Mississippi Medicaid program by linking state cancer registry and Medicaid data.
