  • Orientation for new employees

Orientation sessions usually are conducted in the new "classroom wing" adjacent to the School of Nursing (east side). Your manager will provide you with session specifics and directions. Look for posted directional signs, and click here for maps.

For more information, call (601) 984-1179. UMMC is a tobacco-free campus.

You need to gather certain documents to bring with you, including:

    • Before your first day

      • All employees are paid by direct deposit. Your paycheck will automatically be deposited every payday into your specified checking or savings account. A sample voided check is needed so your direct deposit can be set up right away.
      • And, we will need the Social Security number of your beneficiary(ies) for life insurance and the retirement plan. If you do not complete your forms online, please bring the requested numbers with you.

    First day basics

    • Free parking for employees is available at the Veterans Memorial Stadium parking lot. The main entrance is from North State Street by Backyard Burgers. Please park in this lot unless  instructed otherwise by your manager. You may choose to participate in our "wellness" program by walking to campus, or there are shuttle buses that run continuously throughout the day and make various stops on campus. Look for the blue "Shuttle Stop" signs located in the parking lot and on campus. Since your first day is orientation, you'll want to get off the shuttle by the School of Nursing.
    • Dress in appropriate casual business attire or wear your uniform. This means no shorts, flip-flops, blue jeans, tank tops, T-shirts, sweatshirts or other clothing not suitable for a professional environment. Remember, you are now a representative of the University of Mississippi Medical Center, and while on campus, your appearance is an indicator to others of the standards, values and professionalism of the Medical Center. Click here to review the Standards Guide with more information about appropriate dress for UMMC employees.
    • Sessions begin promptly at 8 a.m.. Arrive 10-15 minutes early to register, enjoy coffee or juice, and meet other new employees. Please allow yourself plenty of time to park and get to the classroom so as not to disrupt sessions once in progress.
    • Remember to silence your cell phone and turn off a laptop before sessions begin. We have very important information to share with you, so we need your undivided attention and ask for your active participation. Please no text messaging, book reading or engaging in any other activity that would be a distraction to you or others.
