  • Guardian Society

    In 1975, the Guardian Society was created to honor the University of Mississippi Medical logo- guardian societyCenter's most important individual donors. In 2007, alumni and donors were surveyed about a number of issues regarding their relationships with the Medical Center.

    The survey's results led to a redefinition of the Guardian Society. Beginning July 1, 2007, lifetime donors of $50,000 or more and donors of $500 or more to the Medical Center in any fiscal year (July-June) will be recognized as members of the Guardian Society at one of the following levels.


    • Friend: $500- $999
    • Associate: $1,000- $4,999
    • Fellow: $5,000- $9,999
    • Benefactors: $10,000- $49,999

    When total lifetime giving exceeds $50,000 (whether in any one year or not), donors are recognized as members of the Dean's Society.

    Guardian Society members who met membership criteria for "Lifetime Guardian Society" status prior to June 30, 2007, will be perpetually recognized at the Guardian Society's Fellow level.


    Guardian Society donors are publicly recognized each year in the widely distributed University of Mississippi Foundation annual report. As appropriate, contributions are publicized in gift-related press releases and other UMMC publications and the general media.

    Beginning in 2008, Guardian Society members are honored at a function in the fall to honor donors from the preceding fiscal year. Additionally, UMMC will offer programming exclusively to Guardian Society members at various giving levels throughout the year.

    Through invitations to all appropriate Medical Center events, Guardian Society members have unique access to the UMMC vice chancellor and deans, both on campus and through special events held across the state and the country throughout the year. Donors have opportunities to meet and build relationships with other donors based on the Medical Center and other interests.
