Position Description
The Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs and Dean, School of Medicine, (VCHA/Dean), The University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) is responsible for the leadership and management of the health science campus. The VCHA/Dean will recognize the responsibility UMMC embraces for the health and welfare of the entire state of Mississippi and the unique opportunities and challenges that correspond to those responsibilities and how this intimately relates with the teaching, clinical and research missions. The VCHA/Dean must be a visionary leader with the ability to take UMMC to the foremost level of performance in education, patient care and research by (1) providing leadership for the strategic direction of UMMC and assuring the financial success of the academic and clinical health enterprise; (2) working in collaboration with the senior management team and providing leadership to: (i) ensure that all patient care activities are provided at the highest level of quality and service, (ii) enhance the quality of the education and training experiences for students and residents, (iii) stimulate faculty scholarship and research and drive faculty recruitment, retention and development. The VCHA/Dean will also support and drive philanthropic efforts, seeking resources from private individuals and corporate entities. The VCHA/Dean performs an essential role in building strong relationships with government entities locally, regionally and nationally, seeking their support for UMMC. Finally, the VCHA/Dean is responsible for promoting and protecting UMMC's image with the general public and furthering its relationships with the communities it touches.
