University Rehabilitation Center (URC) opened the doors to its first patient on June 26, 2002. University Rehabilitation Center is an acute, inpatient adult rehabilitation unit that focuses on the interdisciplinary care of patients who need rehabilitation from strokes, amputations, major multiple traumas, spinal cord injuries, minor brain injuries, arthritis, neurological disorders and other medical conditions that require rehabilitation. University Rehabilitation Center cares for patients age 18 and older who have the ability to tolerate a comprehensive rehabilitation program. The unit, located on the UMMC campus, is open 24 hours a day, seven days per week.
The mission of the Rehabilitation Unit of the hospital is to promote functional restoration of both physical and psychological being and to achieve the highest level of functional improvement within the constraints of resources available to the patient. The unit staff will act as a role model to affect attitude and work ethic and to do so in a creative environment that promotes advancement for the patient, the staff, and the hospital.
The Rehabilitation Unit believes in providing an interdisciplinary approach to the provision of care while taking into account the personal goals of the patient and family. We provide this service from a position of integrity and with a sense of purpose and dedication to quality outcomes.
We see ourselves as a resource for individuals who desire an opportunity to improve their functional status and return to a higher level of independence. We see ourselves as an organization dedicated to reducing cost while maintaining positive outcomes of care. We see ourselves as a team of health care providers working in a positive and friendly environment to remain on the cutting edge of rehabilitation.
