RN-MSN Nurse Educator
Would you like to combine your knowledge and clinical skills with your passion for educating the future generation of nurses? Are you interested in having a challenging and rewarding career in a large job market? Do you want to earn your master’s degree in a short amount of time with limited on-campus visits? If you answered “yes” to these questions, the Nurse Educator track at the University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Nursing is the right track for you.
A nurse prepared at the master’s level in the Nurse Educator track is able to serve important functions as an expert health agency educator and as a faculty member in a nursing education program. To achieve this goal, the Nurse Educator track provides the graduate learner with the knowledge, skills and abilities of specialty nursing practice, as well as the foundation to pursue doctoral education.
With both part-time and full-time plans of study available, the Nurse Educator track offers you the time and choices that you need to balance school with work and family responsibilities. Likewise, included in the Nurse Educator curriculum are 360 practicum hours, which offer you more on-the-job, real-world experience. Because nurse educators are always in demand, graduates of this track often work in a variety of settings, including academia as instructors, researchers and advisers. They also may work in clinical health-care settings as staff development specialists, preceptors, patient educators, orientation leaders and clinical instructors, just to name a few.
The curriculum provides the student with a foundation to pursue doctoral education and is based on the Southern Regional Education Board: Nurse Educator Competencies.
Plans of study and course scheduling
The Nurse Educator courses are completely online, although some core courses may meet face-to-face one to four times a semester. This is accomplished through distant-learning technology from the Oxford campus and Jackson campus or other online technologies.
Please note: Part-time and full-time plans of study are available and are designed by faculty with individual consideration given to students' goals and geographic locations.
