RN-MSN Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner

Are you interested in earning your master's degree in an ever-growing field, enjoying a large job market and providing compassionate, competent patient care to adults of all ages? Would you like to practice in community and hospital-based primary-care clinics, patients' homes, sub-acute/skilled nursing facilities or long-term care settings? If you answered "yes" to these questions, then the Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner track at the University of Mississippi Medical Center is the appropriate track for you.

The Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner track's emphasis is on health promotion, illness prevention and management of acute and chronic illnesses in adolescents, young-to-middle age adults and adults age 65 years and older. Graduates are prepared to practice independently and collaboratively with other health-care professionals. This track's clinical component consists of 630 hours of guided experience under the mentorship of an advanced practice nurse or physician. Graduate are eligible to take the ANCC or AANP national certification exams and obtain a state advanced practice license as a nurse practitioner.

*This track is in transition to meet the expectations of the Consensus Model for APRN Regulation. The gerontological nurse practitioner will transition to the new population-focused role, adult-gerontological nurse practitioner.

This track is offered through the Mississippi Educational Consortium for Specialized Advanced Practice Nursing (MECSAPN).

Plans of study and course scheduling

The Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner courses are online; however, some may require intensives that meet on campus one time per semester.
