Do you enjoy working in a fast-paced, challenging environment? Do you enjoy solving problems quickly, constantly learning new things and providing direct bedside care to adult patients, while working around the clock to help families understand their loved one's health? If you answered "yes" to these questions, then the University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Nursing Acute Care Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner track is the appropriate track for you. The Acute Care Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner track, the only one of its kind in Mississippi, prepares nurses to deliver acute and critical care to adult clients in a variety of settings. This track's clinical component consists of 630 hours of guided experience under the mentorship of an advanced practice nurse or physician. Graduate are eligible to take the ANCC or AACN national certification exams and obtain a state advanced practice license as a nurse practitioner. Note: RN-MSN Early-Entry students are not eligible for the Acute Care Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner track. This particular track requires a minimum of one year of critical-care experience as a registered nurse.
Acute Care Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner coursework is predominantly online, but at the discretion of the faculty, courses may meet face-to-face (online or on-campus).Please note: Part-time and full-time plans of study are available and are designed by faculty with individual consideration given to students' goals and geographic locations.
