Welcome to the UMMC Department of Pediatrics, Division of Infectious Diseases website. We provide a number of clinical services across the spectrum of ambulatory and in-patient care for a wide range of pediatric/adolescent ages at UMMC.

We, of course, are pleased to be of assistance in evaluation and management of neonatal, pediatric and adolescent patients from anywhere in the state. We also provide evaluation and management of HIV in pregnancy from pre-conception to postpartum.

Please use the table below to select the most appropriate provider to contact for the specific clinical question, consult or referral that you have. As a general rule, Dr. Palmer handles all general infectious diseases-related consults and adolescent HIV-related consults. Dr. Gay and Dr. Nash will respond for pediatric/perinatal HIV consults.

Below is the call schedule in Contact U for Dr. Palmer in Pediatrics - ID or Dr. Gay and Dr. Nash in Pediatrics - HIV.

Or, contact the UMMC operator at (601) 984-1000 and have the doctor on call paged.

During the period from August 2000 until August 2012 we provided support services for women, children, youth and families affected by HIV/AIDS through a Ryan White Program HIV/AIDS Program Part D grant, Central MS Circle of Care. Due to budget and work plan changes to meet competing grant guidance in 2012, funds were shifted to support additional case management devoted to women and adolescents with HIV/AIDS. The Circle of Care office was closed July 31, 2012.

The current staff is composed of a pediatric nurse practitioner, an RN case manager for perinatal patients, an RN case manager for adolescents and HIV-exposed infants, a social worker and an administrative assistant II.
