Pastoral Services

The University of Mississippi Medical Center recognizes the rights of patients, their families and staff to pastoral and spiritual services. Spirituality can be an important element in overall well-being and in dealing with illness or injury.

Chaplains with the Department of Pastoral Services are trained to minister to all persons, regardless of denominational or religious tradition. The department also can assist you in contacting a minister of your faith community.

What we do

Chaplains can provide for patients, families, staff and UMMC students:

• Pastoral care and counseling
• Exploration of issues regarding meaning and purpose
• Sacraments, religious rites and rituals
• Prayer
• Religious literature
• End-of-life and grief care and support
• Education to staff and students regarding spirituality, religion and health
• Education to staff and students regarding ethics and cultural diversity
