UMMC transplant team, liver recipient to speak at noon marking renewal of program

Media Contact: Jack Mazurak at 601-984-1970 or jmazurak@umc.edu.

WHAT: UMMC’s first liver-transplant recipient in 22 years will discuss her experience along with Medical Center transplant team members.

WHEN: Noon, TODAY, Thursday, March 14

WHERE: Department of Surgery conference room, first floor, James D. Hardy Clinical Sciences Building.

PARKING: Media may park in the Public Affairs lot directly in front of the Verner S. Holmes Learning Resource Center. Enter campus from Lakeland Drive. The building and parking lot will be directly in front of you at the three-way stop.

WHY: The renewal of UMMC’s liver transplant program means Mississippians will be able to stay closer to home for pre-operative visits, transplantation and follow-up care. Since the program stopped in 1991, about 60 patients a year have needed to go outside Mississippi for liver transplantation.
