  • Division of Digestive Diseases

The hallmark of UMMC's Division of Digestive Diseases is its focus on improving the health of patients who seek care and information concerning gastrointestinal and hepatological disorders that compromise quality of life. Patients travel to its state-of-the-art endoscopy Lab from throughout Mississippi, across the United States and other countries to receive assessment and treatment for gastroenterological and hepatological disorders, as well as preventive care. The division enthusiastically sponsors and cooperates with research efforts throughout UMC, as well as with other state, regional and national medical centers.

Faculty and gastroenterology fellows within the Division are routinely involved in treating and investigating such clinical interests as irritable bowel syndrome, intestinal pseudoobstruction, functional dyspepsia, gastroesophageal reflux disease, diabetic enteropathy, pelvic floor dysfunction, dysphagia, sedation for endoscopy, hepatitis C and gastroparesis. UMMC's Division of Digestive Diseases offers internationally recognized health services and research, and in 2006 became one of five sites in the nation invited to participate in the National Institute of Health's Gastroparesis Clinical Research Consortium Registry.
