  • Graduate Program in Neuroscience

Welcome to the website of the Graduate Program in Neuroscience at the University of Mississippi Medical Center!  Research and education in neuroscience has a long history at UMMC and many doctoral-level scientists are currently active in this field on campus.

The program, organized in 2006, is the first on campus to be truly interdisciplinary with faculty and support from nine departments spanning basic and clinical neuroscience. We offer an intensive and comprehensive program of training leading to a PhD in Neuroscience. We invite you to tour our site, learn about our faculty and curriculum and, of course, we will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Currently, 39 faculty members from 12 departments at UMMC participate in the program. The mission is to provide comprehensive training in modern neuroscience with an emphasis on clinically relevant research. Directed by Dr. Ian A. Paul, the program is jointly supported by UMMC's Department of Psychiatry and the Center for Psychiatric Neuroscience. Research funding at UMMC is very strong with some 45 neuroscience investigators receiving over $5 million per year in NIH funding.

Please contact the program director for additional information.
