Mission
The principle mission of the Department of Periodontics and Preventive Sciences is to enhance higher education and health care delivery to the state of Mississippi by teaching comprehensive, state-of-the-art periodontal diseases treatment and prevention to undergraduate dental students.
A variety of educational and clinical settings are utilized to expose students to evidence-based decision-making and critical thinking in managing and preventing periodontal diseases. Students are taught the underlying sciences of periodontal disease, health achievement and prevention. Educational outcomes include understanding concepts of periodontal health, disease and health-maintenance. Students learn contemporary thinking and techniques of wide-ranging periodontal diseases management, including nonsurgical and surgical skills, regeneration methods and esthetic considerations.
