Master of Science in Nursing Degree

Do you have your associate degree or diploma in nursing? Would you like to earn your master's degree in three years or less?

If you answered "yes" to both questions, then the University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Nursing's RN-MSN program is the right choice for you.

With part-time and full-time plans of study available to students, the RN-MSN program at UMMC provides you with the flexibility you need to focus on your career while getting your master's degree. The RN-MSN program offers six master's options, including four nurse practitioner tracks, a nurse educator track and an administrator track—giving you the time, choices and flexibility that you need to be the best possible RN.

UMMC is home to the state's only academic health sciences campus. With four major hospitals—Batson Children's Hospital, University Hospital, Wallace Conerly Critical Care Hospital and Wiser Hospital for Women and Infants—on the UMMC campus, SON students gain not only the best nursing education in the state, but also a truly unique learning environment and unlimited resources. UMMC also has the state's only Level 1 trauma center, as well as the state's only children's hospital. Committed to the education of the state's nursing leaders, UMMC offer these resources - and so many others - to all SON students.

    Program description

The purpose of the RN-MSN program is to provide associate-degree RNs a flexible program of study that will allow them to continue to meet work and other obligations while pursuing graduate education. Graduates of the RN-MSN program will meet the standards and program outcomes for baccalaureate and master's nursing education and receive the master of science in nursing degree.

RN-MSN course content is spread evenly over seven to nine semesters. This permits students to balance their coursework along with employment and family responsibilities. Likewise, both part-time and full-time plans of study are available.

Eligible students may be from Mississippi or surrounding states. Out-of-state tuition scholarships are available on a competitive basis.

The educational programs at the UMMC School of Nursing are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
