Do you like to take pictures? Are you interested in the health care field because you want to help people? If you answered "yes" to these two questions, then the Radiologic Sciences program offered at UMMC may be just right for you. The profession may suit your interests as it is a means of seeing inside the human body.

Utilizing specialized imaging equipment and advanced computer technology, the radiologic technologist is responsible for performing a variety of challenging and interesting examinations on a diverse patient population. Radiologic technologists work closely with other members of the health care profession and are vital in providing the images necessary for diagnosing disease and injury.

Radiologic sciences is a broad field that encompasses not only diagnostic radiology, but also bone densitometry, cardiovascular/interventional radiography, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), mammography, nuclear medicine, radiation therapy and sonography.

The Department of Radiologic Sciences offers two courses of study:

    • The traditional baccalaureate degree program in radiologic sciences is an entry-level program designed to provide students with the education and clinical experience necessary to become registered as a radiologic technologist. The program is full-time and offered across five semesters for a total program length of 22 months.
    • The advanced standing baccalaureate degree program in radiologic sciences (2+U online), is intended to enhance the quality and education of registered radiologic technologists. The program is part-time and offered across five semesters. Online coursework is the method of content delivery.
