University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) is seeking a Vice Chancellor/Dean, School of Medicine to position UMMC for continued excellence and success in a rapidly changing health-care environment.
The University of Mississippi Medical Center, located in Jackson, Mississippi, is the only academic health science center in Mississippi and encompasses five health professions schools. UMMC is dedicated to health sciences, education, research, clinical excellence, and enhancement of the health of Mississippi’s population.
UMMC was established in Jackson in 1955. UMMC reports through its Chief Executive Officer, The Chancellor of the University of Mississippi, to the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL), the governing body for the state’s eight public universities.
The Vice Chancellor/Dean is responsible for the execution of the mission of UMMC and has oversight for all schools and divisions within the medical center. The Vice Chancellor/Dean will be expected to lead an integrated academic medical center complex and take charge of a strategic plan that capitalizes on UMMC’s strengths. He/she will maintain direct oversight of the University Hospitals and Health System’s management team(s) and take fiscal responsibility over the clinical, education and research enterprises. The annual budget of the UMMC enterprise exceeds $1.3 Billion; employs more than 10,000 colleagues and has direct economic impact on the state which exceeds $2 Billion annually. Importantly, UMMC is on firm fiscal footing providing for continued strategic growth and impact across all missions. It is also critical that the Dean/Vice Chancellor present a compelling external face for UMMC to state and national government leaders and other constituencies.
A Physician executive with strong academic gravitas is required. Candidates must have demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment.
