    School of Dentistry

The University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) School of Dentistry is offering students a nine-week training program in research. The Undergraduate and Professional Student Training in Advanced Research Techniques (UPSTART) Program provides an opportunity for eligible dental, pre-dental, pre-graduate and high school students to be involved and trained in research at the University of UMMC School of Dentistry and recognizes their accomplishments. The program will focus on a variety of training topics and the diversity of multidisciplinary research.

Training facilities include the well-equipped research laboratories of UMMC and the Department of Biomedical Materials Science. The program is designed to teach general laboratory safety and enhance essential laboratory skills. The students will be provided the opportunity to gain hands-on research experience under the mentorship of faculty actively engaged in research throughout the summer. Also throughout the summer, the students will attend seminars on a variety of topics (ex., time management, abstract writing, effective presentation skills). At the end of the training program, the students will present their research to the research group, other students and faculty.

We encourage you to take advantage of this unique opportunity. To apply or for more information, please contact Dr. Amol Janorkar at ajanorkar@umc.edu or (601) 984-6170.
