    When should I apply for your program?

    Applications are open from July 1 of the preceding year through March 1 of the calendar year of desired enrollment. (The application deadline may be extended past March 1 at the discretion of the HIIM program.) All undergraduate coursework must be completed with official transcripts and GRE scores on file prior to formal acceptance to the program.

    Do I have to have a baccalaureate degree in a health-related field?

    No, students can apply to the program after completing any baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university. However, students must complete all prerequisites prior to enrollment.

    Are prerequisite courses required?

    Students must complete a course or courses in human anatomy and physiology covering all body systems prior to enrollment in the program. Courses may or may not include a laboratory component.

    Must I complete all prerequisites before applying?

    If prerequisites have not been completed before the application due date, please complete the "plan of study" included in the application, indicating plans for completion of prerequisites prior to fall enrollment.

    Are applicants required to take the GRE?

    All applicants must submit official scores from the Graduate Record Exam (GRE).

    Can I attend the program on a part-time basis?

    Yes, most students in the MHIIM program attend on a part-time basis. Since the entire curriculum is taught online, students can choose to take the number of classes most convenient for their schedules.

    Can I work while I am attending school?

    Full or part time employment while enrolled in the MHIIM program can be beneficial as relevant experience enhances the learning process. A variety of financial aid is available for students. This information is obtainable through the Office of Student Financial Aid once an applicant has been accepted into the program.

    Is the program completely online?

    Yes. However, course examinations must be proctored at an approved test proctoring site. Students pursuing the HIM RHIA eligibility track must complete 80 clock hours of professional practice experience (PPE) in a health care or related site prior to completion of the program, but these hours are optional for the health informatics and health information management tracks.

    What is a professional practice experience (PPE)?

    Students completing the RHIA eligibility track must complete 80 clock hours of PPE as a part of their coursework. These PPEs are meant to introduce students to health information management processes and practices within a healthcare setting. This real-life experience, be it with a hospital, clinic, vendor, or related organization, prepares students for life after graduation. Every effort is made to match each student with the most appropriate site for his or her career goals.

    Who are the faculty?

    The HIIM faculty (academic and clinical) consists of highly qualified professionals with appropriate credentials. The majority of the faculty members in the program hold terminal degrees in areas related to the profession and have extensive teaching experience. The faculty is well-published and has presented papers, posters, and workshops at the national, regional, and state levels. All faculty members are involved with professional organizations, and the HIIM program encourages students to become actively involved, as well.
