What is RSS?
RSS is a free and easy way to get the latest web content such as news, articles or press releases. Subscribers receive update notices when new information is available on a website.
(RSS stands for Real Simple Syndication. RSS feeds are written in an XML-based format. XML stands for Extensible Markup Language.)
Why should I use RSS?
RSS feeds save time since users automatically receive notification when new content is available. Users also have the power to subscribe and unsubscribe to any feed, at any time.
How do I subscribe to RSS Feeds?
To subscribe to an RSS feed, you need two things:
- An RSS reader or news aggregator
- The url (web address) to the feed to which you want to subscribe
What is an RSS reader?
RSS readers are programs that retrieve syndicated content from websites and display the information in an easy-to-read format. The feed reader regularly checks the feeds you subscribe to for new content and automatically downloads any updates. There are a large variety of readers to choose from; they are built into sites like MyYahoo! and Google, web browsers and e-mail programs.
I have a reader, now how do I subscribe?
Once you have an RSS reader, subscribe by clicking on an RSS icon or enter the feed's link into the reader. Some readers will auto-detect the presence of an RSS feed on a website and you can optionally choose to subscribe. Look for the RSS image on a website to subscribe to its feeds.
