CENTER APPLICATION
Centers are programs that have predominant education and/or research functions. A center may also have health care functions.
Provide the information requested in the following section and include supporting documentation as indicated for the proposed center. The proposed Director or Chair of the Operating Board will be asked to present the information to the UMMC Centers & Institutes Committee when the proposal is considered by the committee. The center will be notified prior to the meeting. Additional considerations include the following:
• Approved centers may be required to provide information to the Board of Trustees for State Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL), our governing board.
• Approved centers must develop a website.
• Centers and institutes at UMMC do not provide academic degrees.
CLINICAL CENTER APPLICATION
The primary purpose of a clinical center is to provide and coordinate health care for a specific patient population or specific health issue. A clinical center may also have education and research functions, but its primary purpose is health care delivery.
Provide the information requested in the following sections and include supporting documentation as indicated for the proposed clinical center. The proposed Director or Chair of the Operating Board will be asked to present the information to the UMMC Centers & Institutes Committee when the proposal is considered by the committee. The center will be notified prior to the meeting. Additional considerations
include the following:

INSTITUTE APPLICATION
Institutes are large multidisciplinary programs involved in all three missions: education, research, and health care. Institutions involve multi-departmental collaboration.

The proposed Director or Chair of the Operating Board will be asked to present the information to the UMMC Centers & Institutes Committee when the proposal is considered by the committee. The institute will be notified prior to the meeting. Additional considerations include the following:

Reporting Commitment: All centers and institutes must provide an annual update online through the Centers and Institutes website. Centers and institutes must also submit a five year report to the Centers and Institutes Committee. The director will present the report to the committee as part of the director's review. Please acknowledge and agree to comply with this reporting commitment.
