Event probes black-white relations in medicine

Racial relations among physicians past, present and future was the topic during last Friday's Robert Q. Marston Symposium on Race and Medicine at UMMC.  About 170 faculty and community physicians, state health officials, medical students and other professionals gathered for the event organized by a committee led by Dr. Richard deShazo, Billy S. Guyton Distinguished Professor and UMMC professor of medicine and pediatrics.  The event included short presentations and panel discussions on different aspects of race and medicine plus an afternoon session facilitated by the William Winter Institute for Racial Reconcilation.  Engaged in a panel discussion above are (from left) Dr. Ed Hill, moderator (standing), Dr. Ralph Didlake, John Henegan, an attorney with Butler Snow, former Governor William Winter, Dr. Claude Brunson, Dr. Shirley Donelson and Dr. Cameron Guild.  (Enlarge photo)
