Medical genetics fellow joins pediatrics faculty
Dr. Eric Dec, a medical genetics fellow at the University of California, Irvine, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of pediatrics.
After receiving the B.S. in biochemistry in 1994 and the M.S. in biology/molecular genetics in 1997 from the University of Denver, Colo., Dec earned the M.D. at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in 2003. He served a medical literature search service from 2003-06 and was a resident physician in the Kettering Medical Center Program in Internal Medicine from 2006-09, a stem cell fellow at the University of California, Irvine California Institute for Regenerative Medicine from 2009-12, and a medical genetics fellow at UC-Irvine since 2012.
The author or coauthor of 11 abstracts or articles in peer-reviewed professional publications and five presentations, Stec is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, American College of Physicians and the American Society of Human Genetics. His research interest is in deriving iPS stem cell lines to address how VCP mutations effect neuronal and muscle degeneration in VCP disease.
