Pathology faculty welcome new assistant prof.
Dr. Janis P. McNeil, a staff pathologist at Ameripath Mississippi, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of pathology.
After attending Auburn (Ala.) University in 1978, McNeil earned the D.V.M. at the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1982 and the M.D. at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine, Mobile, in 1996. From 1996-2001, she had pathology residency training in combined anatomic and clinical pathology at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine, Mobile, where she was chief resident in 2000.
McNeil served as a staff veterinarian at Beltway Animal Hospital, Jacksonville, Fla., from 1982-83 before establishing Perdido Bay Animal Hospital, Lillian, Ala., in 1984 and operating it until 1990. From 1990-94, she served as a staff veterinarian at Mobile (Ala.) Veterinary Medical and Surgical Services, Inc., and attended medical school beginning in 1992. Since 2001, she has been a staff pathologist at Ameripath Mississippi, and has served as medical director of the laboratory at River Oaks Women's Hospital since 2010.
She is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Clinical Pathology and the American College of Pathologists.
