Orthopedist joins UMMC's surgical faculty

Blake_KendallDr. Kendall T. Blake, a longtime orthopedist in Jackson, has joined the UMMC faculty as an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery.

After graduating from Princeton University (N.J.) in 1967, Blake earned the M.D. at the Vanderbilt University Medical School, Nashville, in 1971. He did a surgery internship from 1971-72 and a general surgery residency from 1972-73 at UCLA's Harbor General Hospital, Los Angeles, Calif., and an orthopedic surgery residency at the Campbell Clinic, University of Tennessee Medical School, Memphis, from 1976-78. Blake also served as a flight surgeon in the United States Air Force from 1973-75.

Blake joined the Jackson Bone and Joint Clinic in 1979 and practiced orthopedics there until 2004, when he left to become director of utilization and resources for Mississippi Baptist Health Systems. Since 2012, he has practiced at the Mississippi Baptist Advanced Wound Center.

An active member of numerous professional medical societies, including the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Medical Association, Blake was appointed by then-Gov. Ray Mabus to the State Welfare Board, which he served from 1988-91, and to the State Rehabilitation Board, which he served in 1988.
