MPHA taps rheumatology admin for internship
Tiffany Jackman, a Doctor of Health Administration candidate, will track legislative issues this session as the 2014 Policy Intern for the Mississippi Public Health Association (MPHA).
Jackman, who is also program administrator for the Division of Rheumatology, was awarded the internship as a student.
The Vicksburg resident will serve through April 6, assisting MPHA in following such health-related matters as the city of Jackson's smoke-free policy, texting-while-driving policy, proposed changes to the state's vaccination laws, funding for the Mississippi State Department of Health, policies to reduce infant mortality in Mississippi, access to health insurance for Mississippians and more.
Jackman also will research public-health and health-care policy options.
"This is a wonderful learning opportunity for me to understand how public policy affects Mississippians' health," said Jackman, who will graduate in 2016. "I am honored to represent UMMC's master of health sciences and DHA program. The education I have received has prepared me for this internship."
