Physiology faculty welcome Hosick
Dr. Peter A. Hosick, a registered clinical exercise physiologist, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an instructor in physiology and biophysics.
After receiving the B.S. in health and physical education magna cum laude from the Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in 2003, Hosick earned the M.S. in exercise and sports science at Appalachian State University, Boone, N.C., in 2007 and the Ph.D. in human movement science-exercise physiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2011. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in physiology and biophysics at UMMC in 2013.
An active member of the American Heart Association, the American Physiological Society and the American College of Sports Medicine, Hosick has coauthored 20 articles in peer-reviewed professional publications and given 18 scientific presentations throughout the Southeast.
His research interest is in the heme oxygenase enzyme system in exercise and as a potential treatment for chronic lifestyle diseases. He recently received a National Research Service Award from the National Institutes of Health entitled "Biliverdin Reductase, the Renal Medulla, and Hypertension."
