Family medicine faculty receives quality award
Shannon Pittman, left, associate professor of family medicine, receives the Q Award from Dr. Marion Wofford, professor of medicine and medical director of University Hospital, during a recent awards ceremony at the Medical Center.
Pittman was nominated for the award by Keith Hodges, director of quality and clinical system improvement, who described Pittman as an "engaged member of the Ambulatory Operations Council."
"While she may be a family medicine provider, she consistently inquires how decisions or projects will affect all of ambulatory practices," Hodges wrote. "This shows her commitment to holistic patient care and to the organization as a whole."
Dr. Diane Beebe, professor and chair of family medicine, said Pittman "is able to see the big picture and work toward what is best, not only for family medicine, but for the institution.
"She devotes time and energy to campus-wide and multidisciplinary activities with the overarching goal being outstanding patient care and medical teaching."
The Q Award is presented quarterly by Quality Administration to a Medical Center physician who promotes quality and improves patient safety. To nominate a physician for the award, select the "Q Award" link under the UMMC Yellow Pages in the Support section of the UMMC Intranet.
