Graduate school captures first community cup
Bradley Deere, Associated Student Body president-elect, presents a trophy to Erin Taylor, graduate student body president, during an ASB celebration May 9 at the Norman C. Nelson Student Union. The School of Graduate Studies student body won the Medical Center's first School Cup.
Students in the six schools at UMMC competed for the cup by organizing and participating in community-service activities. Among other events, graduate school students helped with a Batson Children's Hospital toy drive, a benefit for Stewpot and a benefit for the Jackson Free Clinic.
"As students who are going to be medical and science professionals, we're going to have a life-long commitment to service," Taylor said. "I definitely think the sooner you can get involved in your community, the better."
"I think this is an outstanding achievement to show how active our students are, not only at our school level but in our community," said Dr. Joey Granger, graduate school dean.
