Program offers employees fitness support
Medical Center employees looking to shape up for the New Year can apply for a spot in a 12-week fitness regimen.
Two sessions of the Get Healthy Program, a collaboration between UMMC and Courthouse Racquet and Fitness, are planned in 2013.
Each of the sessions will accept 40 UMMC employees. Participants will exercise twice a week with trainers at the Lakeland Drive Courthouse facility. To apply, employees must have a body mass index of 30 or greater and can’t miss more than two sessions.
The program also pays for one-year gym memberships for each participant and his or her family and access to exercise classes.
Each participant also must log two one-hour cardiovascular sessions a week in addition to the half-hour workouts with trainers. The Get Healthy Program is made possible by a grant to UMMC from the Lexington Foundation with the Courthouse.
Participants from past years have said they experienced improvements including better sleep, loss of 10 percent of body weight and feeling in control and accomplished for having the tools to change their lifestyles.
