Future dental hygienists support charities
Junior and senior dental hygiene students display the “Passion for Prevention” T-shirts they sold in their communities to support national dental hygiene and breast cancer awareness efforts this month.
The students and dental hygiene faculty will wear the T-shirts when they take part in the 2012 Making Strides against Breast Cancer Walk Oct. 27 in Jackson.
Coordinated by a small group of dental hygiene students, the fund-raising effort earned enough to donate $3,600 local cancer-related charities.
Christy Hewitt, senior student, said they chose blue T-shirts because it’s the favorite color of a faculty member who is battling breast cancer. Laura Orsborn, senior student, and Caroline Venable, 2011 dental hygiene graduate, created the design for the shirts.
