Exercise lets UMMC students train one another

Whitney Williams, dental hygiene student, gets hands-on while demonstrating proper oral care to OT student Chantz Smith and nursing students Randall Bane and Francesca Ventura during an interprofessional student training exercise Sept. 13 at the School of Dentistry.

Students from the School of Nursing and occupational therapy and dental hygiene students from the School of Health Related Professions spent the morning teaching each other some skills they had learned so far in their professional training, such as blood-pressure checks, oral hygiene and wheelchair transfers.

The training session was organized through the collaboration of Dr. Jan Cooper, associate professor of nursing and director of the Clinical Simulation Center, Dr. Amy Sullivan, associate professor of dental hygiene and admission chair, and Dr. Peter Giroux, associate professor of occupational therapy.
