Gov. Phil Bryant, University of Mississippi Chancellor Dan Jones and other state and local dignitaries to reveal plans and break ground for a new University of Mississippi School of Medicine building.WHEN:
11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 7WHERE:
Parking Lot 19 in front of the Verner S. Holmes Learning Resource Center, UMMC campusDIRECTIONS AND PARKING:
Exit I-55 at Lakeland Dr., head west toward Fondren. Turn left into the UMMC campus at the light for Peachtree Street immediately following the construction zone on Lakeland. Proceed to the three-way stop. Turn left and make an immediate left into the lot across from the School of Dentistry.WHY:
A new $63 million School of Medicine building will provide space for larger medical class sizes and help UMMC reach its goal of training nearly 1,000 additional doctors by 2025. The school’s current facilities, minimally adequate for today’s class sizes, jeopardize the school’s ability to produce enough physicians for the state’s health-care needs. The new 151,000 square-foot building will offer students a modern, high-quality education experience and prepare them to play a leading role in improving the state’s economy and the health of Mississippians.
