Biography

Dr. Pat Waltman has an extensive experience in nursing education and has taught in undergraduate and graduate programs. Since coming to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 1990, she has served in faculty and administrative positions in the School of Nursing and currently serves as the associate dean for academic affairs and accreditation. Her major areas of focus are baccalaureate nursing education and program accreditation. She continues to work with colleagues in the academic and service sectors to develop collaborative partnership for nursing education and practice.

Current research interests and activities include development of innovative models of nursing education. She has publications and presentations related to her work in best practices for student success, accelerated nursing education and academic/service partnerships. She serves as an on-site evaluator for national program accreditation with the Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education and is actively involved in the Mississippi Council of Deans and Directors Council of Schools of Nursing. Her clinical background is maternal/newborn nursing with an emphasis on neonatology. She is a certified neonatal nurse practitioner with clinical research interest in care of the high-risk neonate.
