Biography
Dr. Marcia Rachel's career has included serving as executive director of the Mississippi Board of Nursing, chief nursing executive at the University of Mississippi Medical Center Hospitals and Clinics and nurse educator at the graduate and undergraduate levels. She has also worked as both a home-health nurse and a mental health nurse.
She has served as president of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing and is a past-president of the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools. She currently chairs the Advisory Board for the CGFNS Institute for Education and is a member of the American Organization of Nurse Executives and the Mississippi Organization of Nurse Executives. Honors include induction in Sigma Theta Tau, Phi Kappa Phi and Kappa Delta Pi.
Currently serving as an appraiser for the Magnet Recognition Program and certified as an Advanced Nurse Executive through the American Nurses Credentialing Center, she also consults with organizations regarding evidence-based practice, strategic planning and regulatory issues in nursing.
Her publications and presentations are primarily related to leadership issues, quality improvement and internationally-educated nurses, and she serves as a peer reviewer and sentinel reviewer/rater of articles for several entities. She volunteers as a congregational health nurse and also with the Red Cross.
