Associate Professor of Nursing
Dr. Kristi Henderson is the chief advanced practice officer (CAPO) and the director of Telehealth for the institution. In her CAPO role, she is responsible for the strategic planning, policy development and resource utilization for all advanced-practice nurse providers and physician assistants. She maintains her clinical practice as a family and acute care nurse practitioner within the Department of Emergency Medicine. In her role as director of Telehealth, she is responsible for the advancement and planning of institutional telehealth initiatives. She spearheaded a state-wide TelEmergency program where 14 rural hospitals are connected with UMHC's emergency physicians via a telemedicine system. Over 40 nurse practitioners have received special training for this role in distance-emergency care.
Dr. Henderson is an associate professor in the School of Nursing. She teaches in the DNP and coordinates an advanced lab interpretation course for all nurse practitioner students. Her primary focus in the DNP program is leadership and program evaluation.
Dr. Henderson's research is focused on telemedicine, HIV testing in the emergency department and the impact of nurse practitioners in an academic emergency department. She has been a co-investigator for several studies and grants. The latest grant was for $5.8 million from the FCC for a statewide telecommunication infrastructure.
