Professor of NursingView CV
Dr. Karen Winters is a professor in the Schools of Nursing and Medicine. She has been at the University of Mississippi Medical Center since August 1995. She currently serves on the Institutional Review Board and is the chairperson of the School of Nursing Faculty Organization. She has served as the School of Nursing representative on the Faculty Senate, Voluntary Health Agencies fundraising campaign and the American Heart Association Heart Walk team.
Dr. Winters is currently the associate director of data acquisition with the Jackson Heart Study. She is also the principal investigator for a study titled, "Healthcare Disparity in Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD)", which investigates the impact of peer education on behavioral and health outcomes for African Americans with CKD. Her other research interests include racial disparities in health and health care, health insurance status, cardiovascular care and analyzing data from large data sets.
