  • Jackson School-Based Clinics

    The University of Mississippi School of Nursing operates several nurse-managed, school-based health centers in the Metro-Jackson area. These health centers are located at Brown Elementary School, Johnson Elementary School and Rowan Middle School.

    Brown/Rowan School-Based Health Clinic

    The Brown Elementary School and Rowan Middle School Health Clinic provides an accessible source of primary and episodic health services to all students. Services include comprehensive physical/mental health assessments, vision and hearing screenings, treatments for acute and chronic illness, as well as referrals to appropriate health care when an illness or treatment is out of the scope of practice for the nurse practitioner. In addition to providing monthly faculty and staff educational opportunities, clinic staff members at both Brown Elementary School and Rowan Middle School offer annual health screenings for faculty and staff, including vital signs, height and weight, BMI, vision and hearing screenings and cardiovascular and musculoskeletal screenings.

    Johnson Elementary School Health Center

    For more than 10 years, the University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Nursing has operated the health center at Johnson Elementary School. Located in northwest Jackson, the school health center offers services to over 400 students and 40 faculty and staff. These services include medication prescriptions, laboratory testing, Early Prevention Screening Detection Treatment (EPSDT) screenings, immunizations and referrals to other health-care providers for further services. Additionally, the clinic provides several other vital services, including a clothes and coat closet, hygiene supplies for children and families in need, information regarding puberty, nutritious snacks for children who missed breakfast, follow-up care and a safe, friendly environment where children can act like children.
