    School of Nursing diversity initiatives

    • Counseling services

      Multicultural Affairs offers counseling services to all UMMC students. A licensed psychologist is available to assist students transition to the demands of the health-care industry and, ultimately, become successful health-care practitioners.

    • Job shadowing

      The Health Care Careers Development Program is an eight-week job shadowing program that provides graduate and undergraduate students opportunities to explore various health-care professions and learn about the education and skills required to practice in that particular area of health care.

    • Mentoring

      The purpose of the mentorship program is to provide students from different racial and ethnic backgrounds the opportunity to interact with and be mentored by practicing nurses with similar backgrounds. Participants gain invaluable insight into the nursing profession; receive the guidance and support of a seasoned RN; build the foundation for a lasting professional network; and gain a clearer understanding of academic and career plans.

    • Scholarships

      Throughout the year, scholarship opportunities become available. Multicultural Affairs, in conjunction with the Office of Student Affairs, disseminates this information to students.
