Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree

Have you ever thought about a career in nursing? Do you already have a bachelor's degree in another field?

If you answered “yes” to both questions, then the University of Mississippi School of Nursing’s Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program is the right choice for you. The Accelerated BSN program is designed for individuals who have a bachelor’s degree in another field and wish to change career paths in a short amount of time. This particular program takes 12 months to complete and includes a continuous three-semester curriculum. UMMC students not only participate in hands-on, multidisciplinary clinical training, but also receive classroom instruction that effectively prepares them for successful careers as RNs in a variety of health-care settings.

    Mississippi's only Accelerated BSN program

The nationally ranked University of Mississippi School of Nursing offers the state’s only accelerated, second-degree BSN program—in two different, equally distinct, learning environments. In Jackson, School of Nursing students receive an excellent educational experience on an academic health science campus, home to four major hospitals—University Hospital, Batson Children’s Hospital, Wallace Conerly Critical Care Hospital and Wiser Hospital for Women and Infants. In Oxford, students can continue their education at the state’s flagship institution and access innumerable Ole Miss student resources—all while receiving the first-rate education that the University of Mississippi School of Nursing is best known for providing.

Upon completion of the program, students graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX), which grants the registered nurse license. The BSN program prepares students for entrance into graduate study at the master’s-degree level.

The educational programs at the UMMC School of Nursing are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
