Located at the Jackson Medical Mall, the Adult Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic (AOPC) is currently the primary ambulatory clinic for the Department of Psychiatry. The AOPC provides comprehensive evaluation and medical management of a broad variety of psychiatric conditions. We are dedicated to providing quality care to the citizens of Mississippi and welcome patients from all areas of the state based on need, although the majority of our clinic population is from the tri-county area: Hinds, Madison, and Rankin.
The Adult Outpatient Clinic offers care to patients 18 years of age and older for a variety of psychiatric disorders including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and psychotic disorders, including schizophrenia. Patients are referred through physicians, other mental health providers, or by self-referral. Patients are accepted into the Adult Outpatient Clinic according to clinical, educational, and research appropriateness. We are unfortunately unable to offer treatment for substance disorders, but are happy to provide a list of treatment resources upon request.
Patients are seen by third- and fourth-year psychiatry residents under the direct supervision of our clinical faculty, and the AOPC Medical Director oversees the clinic operations, ensuring the best possible medical care for our patients. This high level of supervision allows us to train future psychiatrists who will be well-equipped to treat a broad spectrum of patients in an outpatient setting upon graduation from residency. We are a medical stabilization clinic, designed to refer patients back to community resources once stable, which allows us to continually accept new patients in need of the best medical care we can provide.
The AOPC also serves as a teaching location for third-year medical students, allowing medical students to gain an appreciation for the day-to-day impact of psychiatric illness on our patients and the outpatient management of such conditions in order to help our patients achieve their highest possible level of functioning. Patients at our clinic will receive dedicated, caring, and respectful treatment by a team of providers dedicated to improving the mental health of the citizens of our state.
